Simon Cowell says the situation is 'very sad' but that the teenager only has himself to blame
The 18-year-old left the competition after allegations relating to drugs and admitted in a statement he had "over-stepped" the mark.
X Factor founder Cowell said "it's very sad" but that Cocozza had "no one to blame but himself".
Cocozza's mentor Gary Barlow said he was "hugely disappointed" that he had "thrown away an opportunity" but pledged to support him in the future.
Fellow X Factor judge Kelly Rowland appeared to be unaware of Frankie's departure during an interview on Tuesday afternoon.
Looking shocked upon hearing the news from the journalist, the star gasped and said: "Poor guy."
Gary Barlow was mentoring Cocozza and promised to support him in the future
Cocozza's late night partying was often joked about on the show, with host Dermot O'Leary telling the audience the contestant had only had half-an-hour's sleep on Saturday night.
Andy Merry, of boyband The Risk - who were voted out on Sunday - said: "We've said to him, 'you've got a great opportunity here, just calm down a bit'."
Cocozza's behaviour has led to two investigations by Ofcom into possible breaches of its programme code.
It is looking into whether he broke rules on swearing after he was seen to shout "f****** have it - get in there", when he learned he had survived the public vote on October 23.
The regulator is also looking into whether footage of him during a night out with friends breached the code's rules on glamorising alcohol use.
Cocozza is being edited out of the Marks and Spencer Christmas advert which features X Factor contestants and was first aired during a break on Sunday.
Programme bosses will make an announcement later about what will happen on Saturday and whether any axed acts will be brought back.
